  If you mean the lines on our skin on our hands, this happens because our skin folds and over time it creases into the typical shapes that our skin folds over. Clasp and unclasp your hand and you will notice that the lines crease. The lines on our finger tips are thought to be needed for gripping things like tools and for climbing – other creatures have similar features, like geckos have special pads that mean they can walk vertically on glass!
