Being enthusiastic is pretty important. It’s also good to show that you understand science but you’d like to learn more. A lot of research is about being able to make connections between things so if you’re in an interview and don’t know the answer, you could try and think about what you think the answer might be based on your understanding of other things.

      Hey moviesbleek!

I think having a real passion for what you do makes a difference, people can tell if you don’t want to do something or have little interest in it. There’s also the practical side of having lots of experience related to what you want to do, if you like a particular area read lots about it or do practical things related to it. As an example, I was interested in working with brains and wanted to show this, so I did some voluntary work with people in a hospital to show I could work with them. I suppose you also have to be good at, that usually means getting good grades that are relevant to what you want to do in science.

What area of science do you think you might be interested in getting into?

      Jen
