This is absolutely correct, the brain is made up of lots of different cells. Most people know about neurons, the cells that take part in the electrical processes of the brain. But there are also other cells, like glial cells, that feed neurons and structurally support them. When a neuron dies the glial cells actually digest them to keep the brain healthy and free of pointless extra matter!

Glial means ‘glue’ which makes sense since they hold the neurons together! There are lots of different kinds of glial cells, and each has their own responsibility, these names include Schwann, astroglia and satellite cells just to name a few!

We could never know for sure just how many cells are in the brain but people thing there are around 100,000,000,000 cells! These are made of lots of different types of cells which do all sorts of different jobs as mentioned by Jen.
