That’s a really good question, and it’s quite hard to answer! I think I would pick the life support machine. I think this is a really useful invention as it helps doctors to keep people alive while they try and solve the issues. Having said that to be able to invent the life support machine you’d need to invent lots of other things first!
I’d love to have invented the computer. If we didn’t have computers I doubt many of us could do half of the research that we do at the moment. Computers are vital to science and will only play a bigger role in the future.
I think that I wish I could have invented glass, this can happen naturally for example when lightning strikes sand (which is pretty cool!) but it was first invented 3000 years ago around where Turkey and Iran are now. Without glass I don’t think humans or society would be where we are today. Glass isn’t just useful for drinking out of or making windows or the ways we think about it today. Back then glass was used to make the first glasses so that learned men could work and study and write for longer, when before that their eyes would have gotten bad at an early age and they would have had to stop working – this meant they could work for longer in their lives, which meant more studies and more science! Glass was also used in the first telescopes and microscopes, without these we could not have begun to study the stars or the small bacteria in the world or own cells and even our brain cells! For those reasons I think glass is one of humanities most incredible inventions 🙂
