So to try and answer this I first had to go and check what a particle is: A particle is a small object which has a weight and mass, the term is general and used by different people to mean different things.Whether something is a particle is dependent upon the context, so for your question thinking about sand, if we were talking about the whole beach then a grain of sand could be called a particle, so the answer would be one. However, if you want to know what is in a single grain of sand then we can think about the quantities of rock and mineral particles, according to wikipedia the most common composition of sand is SiO2 (sorry can’t type formulas properly). Sorry I can’t give a better answer, perhaps you could ask your science teacher.

      Hey!

Susie is right in that I guess there is just one particle in a grain of sand, since the grain of sand is a particle. But the sand particle is made up of atoms just like everything in the world us, even though a grain of sand is tiny it still has billions of atoms that make its typical basic element parts like silicone.
