      Hi samprewbob

The brain control the body through nerves that stretch down from the brain. The brain has an outer-layer of grey matter called the cortex, this is where the cell bodies of neurons operate – but they stretch down to the spine through the ‘white matter’ on the inside of the brain and these control your body.

The movement area of the brain that moves our body is situated about halfway back along the brain on both side, long then cell parts called axons reach from here down to the spine, and then these nerves run along our body and tell it what to do.

The nerves communicated using tiny electrical charges that communicated from one to the next to the next, and so on, until the whole system is communicating. This happens extremely quickly, at around 200 miles per hour! Because of this speed our limbs seem to move without us even thinking about it!

Hope this answers more fully? Let me know if you’d like more information!

      Jen
