For instance if you mean the non-scientific community then I’m influenced a lot by the outreach work I do in the community or in schools. Speaking to people who aren’t scientists (like you guys) helps me remember that science is about asking interesting questions, and asking questions no-one expects.
Alternatively if you mean the world at large, then I suppose my work is influenced by what people need. All scientists hope that their work can help people I think, and depending on what people need influences the way money is allocated to research!
Hi Jackatsirius, Like Jen says it depends on what you mean by the world. My research looks at learning and technology, so society influences my work quite a bit, I do research around hand held devices including mobile phones so if mobile phones weren’t so popular I probably wouldn’t be looking at them!
