This is a very interesting questions that this video can help to answer, some scientists released a video of people they put in MRI scanners to try and work out if and where in the brain love occurs (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/15/love-competition-movie-uses-mri-scanners_n_1280064.html).

But generally speaking love is important as an emotion for human beings, it helps bond us to family and friends who we can rely on to take care of us.

you’re almost getting into philosophy there! As Jen says scientists have been exploring ways to identify parts of the brain that are involved in ‘love’ and certainly scientists who look at evolution would be able to explain more about why we need love, such as ‘mothers love’ to protect the child.

Personally I think it does exist and it’s important to remember people can use the word love to mean a lot of different things, for instance telling someone you love them means a different kind of love to telling them you love their outfit!
