I think it was Jen that mentioned the article, i’ve found this http://io9.com/5286145/a-harvard-psychiatrist-explains-zombie-neurobiology but i’m not sure if that’s what she was referring to.
Interestingly i’ve used an academic search engine called Google Scholar to search for zombies and there’s been quite a bit of research including articles about why we aren’t zombies,a mathematical modelling of how zombies attack and an article about how to kill zombies, but I think that one is about computer zombies (machines which send spam) rather than horror film zombies!

      Hey kill

Yep, that’s the article! There are lots of interesting reasons why the brain could become a zombie brain, a friend of mine who’s also a brain scientist here at Bristol is so paranoid about zombies he has even written a back-up plan for the health and safety manual in case of zombie apocalypse!

While the theory about zombie brains is interesting theres actually some other reasons why other myths and legends might exist. For example, the clinical problem called ‘sun-downing’ where people with specific kinds of dementia get very aggressive when the sun sets and start attacking people might be responsible for the idea of vampires! And there is a disorder called Cotards Delusion (first talked about by a man called Cotard) where people believe that their bodies have melted away and that all that is left of them is their soul or mind – this may be the reason behind belief in ghosts.
