      Hi Kitkat

A girls period or menstruation is when the egg is formed and hasn’t been used to make a baby so the body needs to dispose of it to make space for the next one! The eggs come from ovaries, there are two, and travel along to the womb where if its met by sperm it will create a baby. The eggs arrive once a month and a set of specific chemicals in the body, like oestrogen and progesterone, prepare the womb to potentially make a baby – it is these chemicals that also happen to influence the brain and create moodswings. It’s a very natural response of the body to the changes within it, and it’s also why it tends to only happent to women!

Also girls voices don’t break because only men have a part of their throat, called the larynx, that grows larger and faster than girls’ – this is part of puberty for men and happens around the same time as girls start their menstrual cycles.

      Hope this helps!

      Jen
